It is with great sadness that we announce that Christopher Charles Owan, 29, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on December 19, 2021. He was born in Mesa and grew up in Chandler. Christopher graduated from Corona del Sol High School in 2010 and went on to study Civil Engineering at ASU for four years. He held numerous positions at AJ’s Fine Foods, was a pharmacy technician at Pharmerica and most recently worked at Amazon.
Christopher had a deep passion for sports. He was a devoted fan of the Arizona Cardinals and the Phoenix Suns. As a child, he played soccer, basketball, baseball and competed in BMX racing. He also played football at Corona del Sol and intramural football at ASU. Since his high school sports days, he enjoyed working out and joining in on a basketball game with friends and family. Christopher also enjoyed the outdoors. Annual summer boating adventures, fishing, camping and snowboarding were enjoyed with his family. As he grew older and traveled with cousins and friends, he fell in love with the ocean. He excelled at skim boarding and body surfing.
Christopher was a bright young man. In his spare time he loved to read, sing and took on line courses in such areas as Computer Coding and Circuits. Christopher was known for his kind nature and warm smile. He had great taste in music and had the best dance moves. He had an allegiance with many friends—a loyal friend forever. He was passionate about helping others—especially those that faced some of life’s most difficult challenges. He endured some struggles with mental illness himself. He was working hard to overcome those obstacles. He had a new job and a new lease on life when he was tragically taken from us far too young.
Christopher was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Jr. and Gladys “Pat” Owan, grandfather William B. Evans, aunt Suzanne Evans Lesley, uncle Darren Lyn Owan and nephew Rowan Charles Keanu Hansen.
He is survived by his parents Rod and Mariane Owan, sisters and brother-in-laws Cassy and Scott Calkins of Gilbert and Caity and Jordan Hansen of Kihei, Hawaii, niece Ella Rose Calkins and nephew William Owan Calkins, grandmother Nancy Evans Jeppeson of Rapid City, South Dakota, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and their families.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Church of the Epiphany, 2222 South Price Road, Tempe, Arizona 85282. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Southwest Behavioral and Health Services, Inc., 3450 North 3rd Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85012.
