Carolyn was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Leonard (Bill) Sweeney and Minnie Sweeney. In 1961, Carolyn was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Risa Simonis. In 1966, she made the decision for her and her daughter to join her parents in Arizona. Shortly after arriving in Arizona, she was fortunate to start her 30+ year career with Salt River Project. In 1968, she met and married C. Don Ross.
After enjoying her career, she and her husband retired and began their journey. They lived in Sun Lakes during the winter and Kohls Ranch during the summer. They traveled to different places in the world when they could.
Carolyn began her battle with cancer in 2015. As we all know, Carolyn was a fighter. She became cancer free in 2017. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and she recently lost that battle.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Minnie Sweeney. She is survived by her following family members: her husband, Don Ross; daughter, Risa Simonis; brother, Jim Sweeney; grandchildren, Ken Simonis, Steve Simonis, and Sagan Simonis; her son-in-law, Bob Simonis; her sister-in-law, Sheryl Sweeney; her nephew and niece, Dublin Sweeney and Erin Sweeney. She also had many friends including two wonderful friends, Nick Curzio and Mitch Taitano, that spent a lot of time taking her out for dinner.
The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
Carolyn (Mimi) will be missed by all.
