Betty was born on January 18, 1930, to Minnie Lee and George Fitzhugh Livingston in Cullman, Alabama.
Following her relocation to Arizona, she married the love of her life, Ray Boles, in 1961. Ray and Betty were great partners in love, life, and business for many years. They enjoyed working together, traveling the world together, and passed their love of travel on to their children. She called Tempe her home for over 70 years. All who knew her experienced her kindness, generosity, and great sense of humor.
Betty is survived by her four children; Steve Runnels (Cheryl), Stan Runnels (Cherryl), Deborah Berkley, Charles Boles (Renata); 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Betty was a deeply committed Christian and active in her church, and served the Tempe community as well. She served as President of the Tempe Historical Society, a member of the East Valley Assistance League, PEO, and the Tempe Settlers. Additionally, she helped run the family business for over 60 years. Her greatest joy were her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren.
Betty boldly told everyone that her peace and strength came from the love of God, and her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her most quoted scripture was, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She achieved what many of us only dream of, true peace and happiness.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Crossroads Nazarene Church, 2950 West Ray Road, Chandler, AZ 85224 with a reception to follow.
