Bernard L. “Bud” Koyen went peacefully and willingly to be with his Lord on May 26, 2023, in Chandler, Arizona. Bud loved life. He was born December 29, 1928 in Fremont, Nebraska to Henry Ritthaler and his wife Margaret Ritthaler who died in childbirth. Bud was then adopted as an infant by the father and mother he knew and loved, Fred and Edna Koyen. It was many years later that he met his older sister Marjorie Harms Kubr who has preceded him in death, and his twin sister, Eugenia (Ginger) Britt. During his life, Bud worked in engineering, human resources, and briefly owned a car dealership; but his biggest success was serving his clients many years as an investment advisor in Omaha, Nebraska. Bud was generous, eternally optimistic, and never held a grudge against anyone. He was also a collector of many things: good friends, fine art, old coins, cars, stock tips, candy, trinkets, and jokes. He loved boats and card games; and he loved Joan Koyen Fitzpatrick, Connie Koyen Bazzy, and Kay Peterson. But his greatest treasures were the four daughters who survive him: Kathryn Johnson (Chandler, AZ), Nancy Langenfeld (Omaha, NE), Cheryl Smarr-Foster (Fort Collins, CO), and Michelle Sonnenberg (Carlsbad, CA). At his passing, he was eager to see his young son William “Billy” Koyen, who had preceded him in death. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Carl Johnson, Ted Langenfeld, and Mike Sonnenberg, his 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, June 3 at 1:00 pm at his home church, Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Chandler, Arizona, followed by interment in Ainsworth Cemetery in Nebraska.
