It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Verna, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of strength in our family. Verna F. Provenzano passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the age of 98. She was the loving wife to the late Joseph D. Provenzano Sr. Proud mother of Joseph D. Provenzano Jr. (Gesena Y. Provenzano). Caring grandmother to Wendy Ogle, Brian Provenzano and Keri Marengo; great grandmother to Emma Ogle, Elena Finch, Kali Marengo and Wade Marengo. She is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph W. Ferguson and Helen Thompson Ferguson; her grandson Luke Marengo; her siblings, Elsie Apt, Ethel Rooney and Kathleen Powell.
Verna was born in the picturesque town of Eastport, Maine on November 18, 1924. During World War II, Verna's path intersected with destiny at the Navy Seabee USO club, where she met a dashing Navy veteran named Joseph. Their connection was immediate and undeniable, and it marked the beginning of a beautiful love story that would span the rest of their lives. Verna's love for her family knew no bounds. She was a devoted wife, providing unwavering support to her husband throughout their journey. Together for 75 years, they weathered the storms and celebrated life's triumphs. Their love was a beacon of light, radiating warmth and joy to everyone around them. Verna's greatest joy, however, came from being a doting grandmother and great grandmother. Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion will forever guide us as we navigate the world without her physical presence. She will be missed by us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, June 9, 2023, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL GARDENS.
