Susan Ann Freeman, also known as Susie or Maggie, peacefully entered heaven’s gates on March 30, 2023, at her home in Chalmette, Louisiana at the age 61. Susan was born on February 7, 1962, to Frank and Angelina Castay Freeman. She was the youngest of three children, including her two brothers, Thomas James Freeman and John Howard Freeman. She graduated from Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie, Louisiana. Susan loved animals, many times visiting the Audubon Zoo or rescuing as many cats as she possibly could. She later spent much of her life travelling, many times visiting places as close as Ponchatoula, Louisiana for the annual Strawberry Festival, or as distant as the beaches of Costa Rica.
Susan had a heart of gold, often calling family members who were experiencing difficult times, visiting friends near and far, and most importantly of all, caring for her mother and brother, John. Susan never wanted to see others sad. When she wasn’t driving along the Mississippi coast living it up at casinos, Susan was enjoying long walks on the beach, hanging out at the Lakefront, watching movies at sunset. She also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and board games with her family. Even though she was a Louisianian who loved riding in Mardi Gras parades and attending balls, she cheered emphatically for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, all while enjoying their country music.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and brothers; she is survived by her fiancé, Patrick Petersen, her niece, Elizabeth Mary McFarland, her nephew, Matthew Thomas McFarland, and a host of family and friends who loved and cared for her deeply. Always wearing a smile on her face. The family plans to host a celebration of life in her honor at a later date. Please check back for details, website will be updated when a date has been selected.
