Richard Wayne Lanier passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the age of 69. He was the beloved husband and devoted companion of 50 years to Pamela Mullins Lanier. Loving father of Candice Lynn Davila and John Christopher Lanier. Son of the late Dorothy and Michael Blanchard. Father-in-law of Percy Davila and Christina Marie Lanier. Brother of Joann Chandler and the late Jeanie Prevatt, Walter John Lanier and Robert Kim Lanier. Proud grandfather of Raven Simone Davila, Jade Alyssa Davila and Danilo Davila. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Richard was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where he enjoyed a long career as an electrician. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a true adventurer at heart. He served his country with honor as a veteran of the Army National Guard in the Artillery Division, and has departed this world to embark on his greatest journey. He found the thrill of gambling to be a captivating hobby, testing his luck and skill with the enthusiasm of a true explorer. He reveled in traveling the world, exploring diverse cultures, and experiencing the beauty of our planet. His wanderlust was only rivaled by his love for his dogs, who were his faithful companions throughout his life.
The French Quarter held a special place in Richard's heart, where he embraced the vibrant spirit and rich history of the city he adored. He enjoyed the magic of Mardi Gras and loved fishing with his friends. Above all else, Richard's deepest love was reserved for his grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with them, passing on his wisdom, humor and affection. His legacy will forever be etched in their hearts.
Richard's absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. In his love for life, travel, and family, Richard leaves behind a legacy of joy, exploration, and unwavering devotion to his country and his family. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of sharing in his remarkable journey. Rest in peace, dear Richard.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, November 2nd from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 1:00PM.
