Patricia “Pat” Phillips Lae passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis D. Lae Jr., her daughter, Petrina S . Melgar-Lae, her grandson, John Stafford, her parents: William “Whitey” Phillips , Ruth R. Phillips, and her sister, Ruth ”Ruthie” Phillips. She is survived and fondly remembered by her 3 grandchildren, Kami Lae, David Melgar-Lae and Davianna Melgar-Lae; her 3 great grandchildren, Sienna, Kamdyn, Kambrielle, her brother, Michael Phillips (Lisa), along with several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 13, 1951, Pat spent most of her life in Marrero, LA, before recently residing at St. Bernard Manor in Meraux, LA, and Heritage Manor in Slidell, LA. Pat’s life was a beautiful reflection of her unwavering faith, her love for God, and her deep devotion to family and friends. She had a unique gift for connecting with people, making new friends wherever she went with her warm spirit and kind heart. Pat's bright personality was complemented by her signature sweetness, feistiness, and the way she called everyone “honey.”
Those who knew her will forever remember her contagious laughter - it could light up any room. Pat loved to dance, and even in her later years, when illness tried to slow her down, she continued to dance with joy - first from her chair and later using her walker, inspiring those around her to cheer her on with admiration. A proud and lifelong fan of the New Orleans Saints, Pat had the joy of witnessing the Saints’ victory in what would be her final game, a perfect ending to a life full of wins, big and small.
Pat found comfort in her faith, and her favorite religious poem, "Footprints in the Sand," served as a reminder of God’s everlasting presence in her life.
Pat, your time with us was a blessing. You have left footprints on our hearts that will never fade. Your love, laughter, and light will remain with us always. Rest in peace, dear Pat. We will forever carry you in our hearts. We love you XO
A memorial service to honor Pat’s life will be held at Cornerstone Church of God, Violet, LA at a later date.
