Joseph Leon Jeanfreau Jr. passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the age of 76. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph Leon Jeanfreau Sr. and Cecilia Schwab Jeanfreau. Loving father of Joseph Leon Jeanfreau III (Anna) and Christopher “Mickey” Michael Jeanfreau. Brother of Carol Jeanfreau Stokes. Proud grandfather of Madeline “Mattie” Leidinger (RJ). Great grandfather of Ryley Jane Leidinger. Step-father of Marcie Trask Graff (Scott). Step-grandfather of Emma Graff. Joseph is also survived and fondly remembered by many relatives, cousins and dear friends.
Born and raised in New Orleans, LA, Joey's journey began in the Ninth Ward, where he discovered his love for serving others at his family's grocery store. His innate ability to delight customers and bring smiles to their faces shaped his lifelong devotion to the craft.
In 1974, Joey transplanted his business to Chalmette, LA, a place he lovingly embraced as home. A proud veteran, he answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War, committing four years to the U.S. Air Force. His love for electronics rivaled his passion for the meat business, evident in the technological oasis he created within his home.
Yet, Joey's greatest joy was found in the company of family and friends. Wednesday nights held a special place in Joey's heart, eagerly anticipated for the weekly card games with his cherished circle of friends. These evenings were a testament to his love for camaraderie, laughter, and cherished bonds that stood the test of time. He was also a familiar face at Charlie's diner, where he cherished moments shared over breakfast, weaving tales of his fulfilling life. He often quipped, "When it's my time to go, tell them my life was great and 'I ate good!'"
In his passing, Joey leaves behind cherished memories, a testament to a life lived exuberantly and a heart that generously embraced those around him. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering zest for life and his innate ability to bring laughter and happiness into the lives of others. Rest in peace, Joey, your legacy of joy and kindness lives on in the hearts of those you touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, December 20th from 10:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a funeral service in Joey’s memory beginning at 1:00PM.
