John R. Mandola passed away at his home on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of the late Jean N. Mandola. Loving father of Cheryl Mandola, Gregory Mandola and the late Raymond Mandola. Son of the late Johnny “Cheaky” Mandola and Josephine Spera Mandola. Proud grandfather of Alexia Floyd (Connor), Dillon Mandola (Hillary), Tiffany Mandola (Josh), Krystal Mandola (Joea) Meagan Mandola (Charles) and Gregory Mandola II (Danielle). Great grandfather of Alle Floyd, Braylee McWilliams, Myiah Sherry, Izabella Sherry, Charles Sherry II, Zayden Sherry, Brent Hernandez, Bryce Hernandez, Jeremy Plaia, Landen Mandola, Jordan Riggio and Sophia Mandola. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many relatives and dear friends. He was well loved and will be deeply missed by his family and by all those whose lives he touched.
John will be honored by pallbearers: Gregory Mandola Sr., Dillon Mandola, Gregory Mandola II, Charles Sherry, Joea Alvarez, Wally Garcia and Luke Gagliano, Honorary pallbearers: Timmy Lisotta, Addison Thompson and Mike Nevel.
John was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He was a former member of the United States National Guard. Becoming a member of Local 16 in 1957, John was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) for 38 years. He spent his career working for Otis Elevator Co. and retired in 1995 as an honorary retiree. John was proud to be a Mason and was a member of Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 428. He was initiated May 19, 1972, passed August 15, 1972 and raised September 12, 1972. John was a 50 year supporting member of the Lodge and the Craft.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service in John’s memory beginning at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
