Jamie Bourgeois Bennett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jamie Bourgeois "Mame” Bennett, age 64, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on January 6, 2025. She is survived by her husband, Layne Joseph Bennett; her children, Robyn Smith (Jason) and Brittney Bennett; her grandchildren, Caylee Smith, Keegan Bode and Triston Smith; her beloved dogs, Jolie Blonde and Magnolia; her siblings, Judy Bourgeois Zeringue (Brian) and Kevin Bourgeois (Claudia); many other cherished family members and friends. Jamie is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Bourgeois and Gertrude Hankel Bourgeois; her siblings, Margaret Lynette Jennings and Carol Joy Bourgeois; her father and mother in- law, Thomas Bennett and Eunice Bennett.

Jamie was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish; she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Material Science in Dentistry. Over the years, she worked in various fields, including Personal Chef, respiratory therapist, dental technician, and for the St. Bernard School Board. She was always eager to help others, and her hard work and dedication left a lasting impact on everyone she worked with. Jamie was a loving wife for 40 years, a devoted mother, and a doting grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her bond with her sister Judy was especially strong. In her free time, Jamie loved spending time in her "She Shed," where she enjoyed crafting and exploring her creative side. Her artistic talents brought joy to many, and she found peace in the moments spent there. Her legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at OUR LADY of LOURDES, 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet, LA on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:30 AM- 12:30 PM. A memorial mass will begin at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow in ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL GARDENS. Join us for food and memories in the Magnolia Room following the burial at 1:30pm.
