Germaine Rose “Gerose” Cazzetta D’Aunoy was born on March 25, 1933, and died in Scottsdale, Arizona, on April 4, 2024. She was a life-long resident of St. Bernard Parish and a member of one of the original families who settled in St. Bernard over four generations ago.
Her parents were Cecile Mary Riess Cazzetta, and Dan Cazzetta (Nee: Gaetano Caserta), and her maternal grandparents were Germaine Ader Riess and Richard Riess. Her paternal grandparents were Rose Bazile Cazzetta and Emile Cazzetta (Nee: Emile Cazerta).
She was the youngest and preceded in death by three sisters, Audrey Cazzetta Schmidt, Cecile Bernice Cazzetta Gonzales, Mary Lee Cazzetta Chimento Scurlock, and her daughter-in-law, Marilyn “Missie” Guillot D’Aunoy.
From her marriage to Gerard H. D’Aunoy she had four children, Denise D’Aunoy Fuselier, married to Gregory J Fuselier, Gerard R. D’Aunoy, married to Elaine Bienvenu D’Aunoy, Robin M D’Aunoy, married to Marty Manchester D’Aunoy and Germaine D’Aunoy Licht, married to Robert A Licht.
She leaves behind grandchildren, Megan “Mimi” Fuselier Spiehler, David J. Fuselier, Danielle D’Aunoy Brady, Nicole A D’Aunoy, Ryan C Davis, Aidan C Davis, Noah J D’Aunoy, Rachel Licht Guillot, Sara R Licht, Alexandra D Licht and six great grandchildren.
Gerose was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Scottsdale, AZ. She was known for her exceptional talent as a seamstress and excellent cooking skills. Her skills as a seamstress were matched only by her culinary prowess, delighting family and friends with her wonderful home-cooked meals. A free spirit at heart, Gerose found joy in swing dancing, the thrill of waterskiing, the serenity of camping, and the tranquility of fishing. Her zest for life was contagious, and her adventurous spirit inspired those around her.
She also dedicated herself to the education and growth of young minds, serving as a teacher's assistant and math tutor at Our Lady of Prompt Succor School. Her commitment to nurturing and guiding others was evident in all she did.
A tireless worker and a devoted homemaker, Gerose poured her heart and soul into creating a loving and welcoming home for her family. Her selflessness and unwavering dedication were a testament to her character. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, generosity, and genuine love for life will forever be remembered and treasured.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, April 15th from 9:30AM – 11:00AM, followed by a funeral service in Germaine’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
