A native of New Orleans, Gerald Norris Goodwin, left peacefully to be with Jesus on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the age of 88. He was the loving husband of Doris May BourQuard Goodwin for 58 years until her passing in 2016. A Very proud father of Joseph Edward Goodwin and Julie Marie Goodwin Nitsch. Caring father-in-law to Julie’s Husband, Daniel Nitsch, Sr. Loving pawpaw of Corey Longo, Darla Nitsch and Daniel Nitsch II. Adoring uncle to many nieces and nephews. True friend and brother in Christ to many, many more. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Houston Goodwin, a native of Natchez, Mississippi and Ida Marie DeLage Goodwin, native of New Roads, Louisiana.
Gerald was born on the first day of summer, June 21, 1933, an adored only child. After his marriage to Doris, he moved here to Chalmette in the early 70’s and worked and retired as in insulator from Domino Sugar, in Arabi, in 1998, at the age of 65. He moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2005, after hurricane Katrina; and was a resident there for 15 years, until returning to his familiar St Bernard parish in 2020. His greatest joy was being a servant to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And his absolute pleasure was spent with his family: his wife, children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at THE TABERNACLE CHURCH, 4030 Paris Rd, Chalmette, LA on Friday, February 04, 2022, from 10:00AM-12:00PM. A celebration of life service will begin at 12:00PM. His body will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Doris in ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL GARDENS.
