Frances “Al” Montgomery Landreneau, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2022 Born in Washington, Louisiana, she and her husband Wilson moved to Chalmette, Louisiana in 1954 and resided there until Hurricane Katrina in 2005, after which they moved to McNeill, Mississippi.
Although she retired as secretary to a commanding officer at the Port of New Orleans, she also worked as a beautician for many years, and prior to that she was employed by the Chrysler Corporation. In her younger years she was active in the Yambilee, a Yam festival held annually in Opelousas. She was also featured as a vocalist in a daily radio show in Opelousas, and originally recorded a song made famous by Kitty Wells, It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels. She graduated from Washington High school in 1952, the same year she married Wilson. She was a born again Christian and enjoyed every opportunity to serve the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Wilson J. Landreneau, Sr., a retired teacher of Chalmette Middle School, her parents Zadie Lois Rice Montgomery and William J. Montgomery, Sr., as well as her siblings Zadie M. Andre, Mary M. Dupont, William (Bubba) Montgomery, Jr., and Joseph (Joe) Montgomery. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Wilson (Butch) J. Landreneau, Jr. and his wife Mary of Slidell, Louisiana, Frances Suzette Vogel and her husband Paul of Terrytown Louisiana, Lorne P. Landreneau and his wife Rachel of Newnan, Georgia, and Damon P. Landreneau and his wife Melissa of Chalmette, Louisiana. She is also survived by 7 wonderful grandchildren; Dustin Landreneau, Derek Landreneau, Laini Vogel Hammond, Julie Vogel Easley, Tristan Landreneau, Damon Landreneau, Jr. and William Landreneau, 10 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, April 21st from 5:00PM – 8:00PM and again on Friday morning, April 22nd from 8:00AM – 10:00AM. A funeral service will begin at 10:00AM. Frances will be laid to eternal rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 702 Cedar Hill Dr., Washington, LA 70589, at approximately 2:00PM.
