Dorothy Dufrene Martin died peacefully in her sleep the morning of April 12, 2023, at 98 years old. Dorothy was born on March 4, 1925, in Lockport, Louisiana. A former longtime resident of Arabi and Chalmette, Louisiana, she moved to Peachtree City, Georgia following Hurricane Katrina and its devastation. In her more active years, she enjoyed activities such as hunting and camping with her husband, Jack Albert Martin, Sr., as well as being with her family. She also enjoyed crawfish boils, seafood dinners, and birthday parties with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Leontine and Wilfred Dufrene, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Albert Martin Sr., as well as her daughter-in-law Rosa Martin and sons-in-law Ronald Licciardi and Michael Gauthier. Dorothy and her husband had five children – Joseph Albert Martin (Doris), Dorothy Mary Licciardi (Ronald), Jacklyn Marie Gauthier (Michael), Jack Albert Martin, Jr. (Connie), and Therese Marie Reddekopp (Wayne). Her siblings include Herbert Dufrene, Velma Ford, and Alverda Dufrene.
Her many grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her, and she kept up with them through the years, even as she and they relocated after Hurricane Katrina. She also enjoyed many nieces and nephews. She will be missed and loved by all who knew her.
A service in Louisiana for family and friends of Dorothy Martin will be held at St. Bernard Funeral Home and Gardens, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA, on Saturday, April 22. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm, followed by a Mass at 1:00 pm, and burial in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In Georgia, a prayer service will be held in Peachtree City after the formal service in Louisiana. Date, place, and time will be announced soon.
