David Allen Bowley Sr. passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with Merkel Cell Carcinoma. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia Fabra Bowley. Loving father of David Bowley III, Clint Bowley and David Bowley Jr. Proud grandfather of Clint, Ryder, Destini and Robyn. Great grandfather of Ryleigh, Raylyn and Mackenlee. Son of the late Norman Wesley Bowley and Marjorie Rose Cantrell Bowley. Son-in-law of the late Irvan Joseph Fabra and Elsie Josephine Fabra. Brother of Jacqueline Schwartz (Gary), Norman Bowley (Connie), Joey Bowley (Jeanette) and Donna Naremore (Bruce). Brother-in-law of Irky Fabra (Pat). He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
David was born in New Orleans, LA and was a lifetime resident of St. Bernard Parish. A decorated veteran of the U.S. Army, David served with pride and distinction as an SPC. His unwavering commitment earned him the prestigious Bronze Star, a testament to his bravery and dedication while serving his beloved country. The call to serve held a special place in his heart, shaping his character and values during his life.
David's life was marked by dedication not only in service to his country but also in his professional endeavors. He embarked on a fulfilling 35-year career as a Shift Superintendent / Operator with Gulf Alliance Refinery / BP. His commitment and hard work were evident throughout his tenure until his well-deserved retirement in 2006.
Beyond his professional and military service, David found solace in the tranquility of nature. A passionate hunter and fisherman, he found joy in the thrill of the hunt and the serenity of fishing, he enjoyed membership in the Pine Tree Hunting Club and the Clear Run Creek Hunting Club. His enthusiasm for angling led him to the Old Violet Gang Fishing Rodeo, where he found camaraderie among fellow enthusiasts.
His love for fellowship extended to social gatherings, relishing moments spent playing cards with cherished friends. An unwavering fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Football, he found immense joy in cheering for his favorite teams. Above all, David treasured his family and friends, embodying a generous spirit and a heart full of kindness. His good-natured demeanor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His love for his country, devotion to his loved ones, and genuine nature will be dearly missed. He was our pillar of courage and strength, and a wonderful example of what it means to care for others.
In the wake of his passing, David leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, patriotism, and love, forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his life's journey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, January 9th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in David’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to eternal rest with Military Honors in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. Following the services, family and friends are invited to a Repass in the Magnolia Room inside the funeral home.
