Candida Rosa Gonzalez Sanchez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Bernard Parish, LA, on June 8, 2024, while surrounded by her loving friends and family. She was born on February 12, 1927, in Managua, Nicaragua, and migrated to the United States in 1974.
She is the beloved mother of Ana Adela Gomez and Ligia Gomez who preceded her in death;. Her survivor children are: Manuel Berrios (Mariana), Enrique Gomez (Marta), Marlene "Maya" Petrie (Gary), Sandra Gonzalez (Hugo deceased), Dominga Gomez Ruiz (Carlos), Ervin Samuel Gomez (Carmen), Violet Gomez-Ortiz (Miguel deceased), and the upbringing of her granddaughters Xiomara P. Gomez-McKinnies.
Candida, affectionately known as "Mom" and "The great Matriarch," leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, strength, resilience, and unconditional love. Her unwavering devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, often giving the clothes off her back to those in need. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her acts of kindness touched the lives of many.
A woman of faith, Candida was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness on August 14, 1988. Her faith provided her with comfort and strength throughout her life's journey.
Candida enjoyed simple pleasures like her morning coffee and cherished her annual trips to Nicaragua. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, each holding sweet memories of the love and joy she brought into their lives. Her warmth and affection were felt by all who knew her.
In addition to her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother, Candida was also a beloved friend to many. She had a knack for giving endearing nicknames to those she held close to her heart, a testament to her playful spirit and genuine affection for others.
As the matriarch of her family, Candida leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will be deeply missed. Though she may be gone from our sight, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
