Jim Darby is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gayle Liuzza Darby, and his two sons, Michael James Darby, and Brian James Darby; grandchildren, Tyler Darby Boyd and Georgia Gayle Darby, the daughters of Michael James Darby, and Steven James Darby, the son of Brian James Darby. Jim was the son of the late Altamont James Darby, Jr. and Marguerite Darby Cefalu. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Darby Hoffmeister, and brother, David Vincent Cefalu. He was also the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Jim graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School, in New Orleans, Class of 1963. Following graduation, he was employed with Western Electric (later becoming AT&T Technologies), from which he retired in 1984 as a Service Representative and Calibration Technician. During his employment at Western Electric, he joined the United States Air Force Reserve, serving from June 22, 1965, to June 22, 1971. After retirement from Western Electric, Jim attended the New Orleans Regional Vocational-Technical Institute, earning a diploma in Instrumentation in March of 1987. Jim went on to become a successful businessman. He also donated his time and skills to the American Red Cross.
Jim Darby was a loving family man. He enjoyed sharing his passion for hunting and fishing with his sons, extended family, and his many friends. In direct connection with this passion for hunting, he was recognized for his skills in breeding and training beagles, which led to success in many field and trial competitions.
Altamont James "Jim" Darby, III, is truly loved by his surviving family and friends. He was a loving husband and father, as well as a true and loyal friend to many. He is sorely missed by his family and friends. His memory will stay forever in their hearts.
