Mildred Elizabeth McGrew, age 83, of Centreville, Alabama passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Bibb County Nursing Home in Centreville, Alabama. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 11:00A.M. at Brent Methodist Church in Brent, Alabama with graveside services and burial following in Brent Cemetery. Rev. Jim Lavendar, Pastor of Brent Methodist Church officiated. Visitation was held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lillie Sherbett McGrew; aunt, Annie McGrew Murphy; uncles, Clint Murphy, Jerrell and Martha Hubbard, and Jim Head; and friend (like a mother) Mrs.Vivian Autry.
She is survived by her sister, Peggy McGrew; and special family (cousins) that she called her “adopted” family. She loved them like her very own: Daphne and Rumpy Watkins, their older daughter, Leah and Matt Downs, and their children, Matthew, McCoy, Mac, and Liv; their younger daughter, Meagan and Jake Smith, and their children, Grayson, Finley, and Sawyer; J.C. and Karen Murphy and family; Winnie Murphy Head and family; Loretta and Kyle Felts, their daughter, Holly and Beau Averette, and their children, Christian, Emmalyn, and Samuel; and Jill and Dovie Felts.

Mildred was born October 14, 1940, to the late Bill and Lillie Sherbett McGrew. She graduated from Bibb County High School in 1959. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Alabama College at Montevallo. Mildred taught Home Economics at McAdory High School for 15 years. She completed her Librarian Degree at The University of Alabama in 1982. She was a librarian for 15 years at Bibb County High School. She retired in 1998. After retirement, she worked at the Brent-Centreville Public Library. Some of Mildred’s talents and hobbies included: seamstress, the most beautiful calligraphy, cooking, crafts, reading, adult coloring, and caring for others.
Mildred had a way to make every person feel loved and special. She will be missed by many.
