Named after her mother Ollie Geneva Holland, Lynda Geneva Holland passed away at the age of 74 on December 11, 2022, at 8:49 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Hospital, in Birmingham, AL. She was a loving, devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend and cared deeply for everyone. Lynda was dedicated to her brother Dalton Holland and took care of him until his death. Sadly, Lynda was admitted to the hospital on the afternoon of December 1, the same day that her brother died. During the most difficult night of her life, on December 11, Lynda was ready and knew that it would not be long before she met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As family members gathered around her bed, singing her favorite hymns, praying, and holding her hand, Lynda stepped into heaven.
Lynda was born on February 25, 1948 in West Blocton, AL. She was the seventh child and fourth daughter of James Huron Holland (who passed away in 1997) and Ollie Geneva Redd Holland (who passed away in 2000). She was also preceded in death by grandparents, maternal and paternal; sister, Sarah Elizabeth Holland Thomas and her husband Douglas; sister, Helen Marlene Holland Prickett; brother, James David Holland; brother, Charles Dalton Holland; sister-in-law, Hazel Bernice Malmede Holland; nephew, David Ron Holland; and, a host of cousins. Her surviving siblings are: Joyce LaVerne Holland Morse and her husband Jimmie; Ronald Dover Holland and his wife Evon; Wanda Gayle Holland Laird and her husband Dr. Donald Laird; brother-in-law, Dr. T.A. Prickett and his wife Martha and sister-in-law, Sharon Holland (wife of David Holland).
Surviving nieces and nephews are: Panda Genene Prickett Krouse; Karen Elizabeth Thomas Pugh; Staci Michelle Thomas Maynard and her husband Krewe; Todd Eric Holland; Billy Wayne Morse and his wife Julia; Alvin Lavern Morse; James Timothy Morse and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Lynda was a founding member of the Braehead Baptist Church in Lucile, AL. She served as the pianist as well as a teacher. Her love of and dedication to the children was indescribable. They looked forward to not only what they could learn from her but for the many special treats she provided. On the day of her passing, each child was presented with a Miss Lynda bear to hug and know that they were loved by her.
Lynda was a 1966 graduate of West Blocton High School. She received a B.S. degree and Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo. Lynda served as a teacher at the Centreville Elementary School for 28 years for which she received a plaque and certificate for her dedication to education. She was loved and respected by all of her students.
Lynda had many gifts and talents in addition to serving as a dedicated teacher. She served as a member of the instrumental team at Woodstock Baptist Church for 18 years and many times played the piano for the Bibb Baptist Associational meetings. Lynda also taught piano lessons to several students. She enjoyed taking pictures of family, friends, and special events to preserve history. Lynda learned to crochet and paint. Her beautiful paintings are phenomenal. She enjoyed collecting porcelain and meaningful whatnots. Lynda thoroughly enjoyed sharing love and joy with family and friends by sending cards for all occasions.
Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her best friend, Edward Perry. A book could be written of their love story as they loved and supported each other through thick and thin.
No one can fill the void she has left in our lives. As we selfishly wish she were still with us, we are grateful that her lungs are now full of praise and she is resting in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
