Lou Ellen (Goodwin) Whatley Rogers, age 80, of Centreville, Alabama passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2024. Lou Ellen was born April 1, 1944 to Desmond and Leila Goodwin. After graduating from Bibb County High School she went on to pursue a career as a Lab Technician and retired from The University of Alabama Student Health Center. She was a member of Four Points Baptist Church and will always be remembered as “Mammaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her prime, Lou Ellen lived life to its fullest and enjoyed helping others, spending time with her family and friends, traveling and shopping. She never went anywhere without a pistol, pepper spray or lipstick and somehow always managed to avoid cops with her lead foot.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Phil Rogers; her parents, Desmond and Leila Goodwin; sons, Christopher Ray Whatley and Clarke Goodwin Whatley; brothers, Robert Goodwin and Tulon Goodwin; sister Elizabeth Ann Powell.
She is survived by her brother, Andrew Goodwin (Wonna Mae) of Hungry Horse, Montana; grandchildren, Dustin Whatley (Ashley) of Tuscaloosa, AL; Christina LeVert (Heath) of Hazel Green, AL; Darren Whatley of Bibb County, AL; Christopher “C.J.” Whatley Jr. (Kyndall) of Centreville, AL; great-grandchildren, Jayce Whatley, Case Whatley, Kinleah Whatley, Sawyer Whatley, Andi Kate Whatley, Greysen Whatley, Maddox LeVert, Ellie LeVert, Carter LeVert, Hadley Whatley, Clarke Whatley, Tarrin Whatley; daughter-in-law, Tina Whatley Adams; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Dustin Whatley, Heath LeVert, CJ Whatley, Darren Whatley, Jayce Whatley, and Case Whatley.
A visitation will be held Friday September 6, 2024 from 12-1 with a funeral service at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Schultz Cemetery with Andrew Goodwin officiating.
