Becky met John at Holmes Junior College where she was Homecoming Queen, and he was Captain of the football team. They met while attending a Baptist Church service near Holmes Junior College. They married, and she followed him to Alabama, where they cherished 60 years together. She loved living on their farm in River Bend. Becky loved Schultz Creek Baptist Church and served in many capacities over the years and most notably for being the pianist and for her singing. Becky also loved her role as “Mamaw.” She played a significant role in the upbringing of her grandchildren.
Becky devoted her life to providing a quality education for all children. She taught 2nd grade and K-4 Title One Reading in Bibb County throughout her 34 years of service. She was selected to be the Assistant Principal and ultimately Principal of Centreville Elementary School. This was an accomplishment she was proud of. Becky obtained degrees in Education from the University of Alabama, a Master’s and Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Montevallo.
Becky’s family has been touched by the outpouring of love during this time. Becky will be remembered for her kindness, positive attitude, warmth, optimism, and her encouraging cheerful spirit. She believed every child was/is “precious.”
Becky lived out her faith daily. Her love for others was a reflection of her love for Jesus Christ. She has left a lasting and positive legacy on her family and community. She was dearly loved and will be missed every day.
The family encourages everyone to “come as you are” to the service or visitation to help us celebrate this amazing woman’s life. If you would like to make an expression of sympathy the family has suggested a donation to the Schultz Creek Baptist Cemetery Fund.
