James "Jimmy" Glenn Shuttlesworth, age 84, of Brent, Alabama passed away at home on Saturday, August 19, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. He served in the Alabama National Guard for eight years. Jimmy was a brick mason by trade and owned his own business. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed beekeeping, fishing, deer hunting and Alabama football. He was lucky enough to marry his high school sweetheart, Florence, and loved all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as his own.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Shuttleworth; children, Dena Murphy (Bobby), Lori Ann Murphy (Brian), Mark Caffee, Mona Burt (Kenny), and Karin Maas; grandchildren, Alison Jones (Chad), Raychel Phillips, John Mele (Paige), Morgan Browning, Dylan Sailors, Nikki Hain (Cooper), John Adam Burt, Mason Burt (Trinity), and Andrew Maas; great-grandchildren, Emily, Brennan, Laken, Ethan, Aaron, Lucas, Haiden, Kensley, Karys Jo, Macie, Hydie, Nate and Dakota; nephew, Ronnie Yates; and niece, Jam Sawyer.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Rockco Funeral Home, 805 Birmingham Rd, Centreville, Alabama 35042. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 11:30 AM at Bethel Cemetery, Highway 5, Brent, Alabama. Bro. Charles Wilson will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Sailors, Mason Burt, John Adam Burt, Ethan Phillips, Aaron Phillips, Brennan Whatley, Marty Mitchell and Paul Pratt. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Burt, Mike Smitherman, Jerry Fondren, Jerry Averette, and Dr Gary Howard.
The family wishes to thank the compassionate staffs of West Alabama Hospice and Bruno Cancer Center at St. Vincent's Hospital for their help and care.
