Bradley Steven Henry Johnson, age 32, of Centreville, Alabama died June 30, 2022 at UAB Hospital. Services will be Friday, July 8, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at the University of Montevallo Student Activity Center (SAC) with Pastor Mike Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Pineland Cemetery in Centreville, Alabama with Rockco Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 9 AM - 11:15 AM.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Marzell and Henry Johnson. Bradley is survived by his parents, Steven and Nancy Johnson; fiancé, Angie and children Lana, Livy, Cameron, Brody and Aiden; brother, Jacob; sisters, Michelle (Jeremy) and Kimberly (Clayton); grandparents, Bill and Judy Chapman; K9 partner, Deputy Bodie; three nieces, three nephews, extended family, friends, and first responder family.
Bradley became a first responder at the age of 17, when he began volunteering with Lakeview Fire Protection District and eventually reached the rank of Lieutenant and leader of the Young Explorer Program. He then volunteered with West Blocton Volunteer Fire Department, where he held the rank of Captain. Brad began volunteering as a reserve officer in Woodstock Police Department, then he was hired as a full time Bibb County Sheriff Deputy in August 2014. He attended the Northwest Regional Police Academy, where he graduated in December 2014. In April 2017, he was appointed K9 handler and completed a 200-hour K9 Handler certification course, where he was partnered with K9 Bodie. Since 2017, he and Bodie have completed over 240 hours of additional training and certification. Brad was scheduled to begin a firearm instructor course in July of 2022. He was also a member of Cahaba FOP Lodge #44 and held rank as Sergeant at Arms.
To know Brad was to absolutely love him. His smile and laugh were incredibly contagious. He was the life of every party. There was never a time that you were around Brad that you didn’t end up with a huge smile and laugh.
Brad was a real-life super-hero. We aren’t saying that he is Batman, but we’ve never seen Brad and Batman in the same room. Brad was downed in the line of duty. His final act of heroism is continuing to save the lives of others in his death.
