She was a 1945 graduate of Bibb County High School in Centreville and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1949, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Betty was a faithful, lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Centreville. Her unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ and humble gratitude to her Lord and Savior remain a lasting legacy for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Phillips White; her son, George Phillips White III; and her parents, Robert Macon Poag and Helen Funderbuck Poag. Betty is survived by her daughters, Allison Elizabeth White Poindexter (Robert Van) of Inverness, Mississippi, and Rachel Stewart White Hart (George) of Memphis, Tennessee; her grandchildren: Elizabeth Poindexter Shackelford (Sam) of Montrose, Arkansas; Robert Vanlandingham Poindexter, Jr. (Kirby) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, George Richmond Poindexter (Kay) of Memphis Tennessee, Hannah Benton Hart and George Stewart Hart of Memphis, Tennessee, and Morgan Spivey Hart of Oxford, Mississippi.
A private graveside service will be held at Pineland Memorial Park in Centreville on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial gifts be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Centreville, Alabama, P.O. Box 246, Centreville, Alabama 35042.
