R Gregory Cox was born on June 29, 1957 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Richard and Edna Cox and graduated from Finneytown High School. In June 2016 he married his best friend, Tenley Thompson, in Onalaska, Washington.
Greg liked to dream big. Growing up he dreamed of playing professional baseball, realizing his dream when the Montreal Expos invited him to pitch for their team. He dreamed of climbing mountains and he did, summiting many major peaks around the world. He dreamed of raising Bernese Mountain Dogs, and brought incredible joy to so many people and in the process created a huge extended family.
Greg was generous to the people he loved. Money was not meant to be saved, it was mean to bring happiness to the people he cared for. Greg valued friendship and loved to socialize whether it was tailgaters, dinner and a concert, or summer campouts at this house.
Greg worked in the mortgage industry for over 30 years. He was very successful, and his ability to come up with creative financing options brought the happiness of home ownership to many people.
One of Greg's favorite hobbies was home remodeling projects. He dreamed of making his house a showplace and put his heart and soul into making it a beautiful, welcoming home where friends and family could relax.
Greg was an active person. Sports, especially watching his daughter Emily's volleyball games, and his beloved Oregon Ducks, brought him joy. He was an energetic sports participant and spectator. Greg also enjoyed hiking and exploring the National Parks, his goal being to visit them all. He made it to a lot of them.
Greg is preceded in death by parents Richard and Edna, and sister Kathy Lowery. He is survived by his loving wife Tenley, step-daughter Emily Thompson; sisters Lisa (Brad) Doyle, and Pam Borne; brother Gary (Kim) Cox; and brother-in-law Dennis (late Kathy) Lowery.
Greg's smile, and the twinkle in his eyes when he came up with an especially good joke, may be what we will miss most. He was playful, with a unique and creative sense of humor that could show up anytime, anywhere, bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. That is what he enjoyed the most.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Rest in peace, Greg. We love you.
