Paul was born on March 14, 1929, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Michael J. and Grace M. (Shanklin) Tighe, and spent his formative years on their farm. After completion of high school in 1946, Paul moved to California, where he was employed in the aerospace industry for a short time. In July of 1948, Paul enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served his country with distinction and honor for the next 21 years. Paul achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel, and retired in October, 1969. During his career he served in both Korea and Vietnam. Among his many awards and decorations is the Bronze Star with a “V” for valor. Following his retirement, Paul began a second career in the banking industry, where he quickly earned a stellar reputation for his honesty, integrity, and management skills. Paul retired again in 1992, and he and his wife, Connie, began traveling extensively in their RV. The pair eventually settled into the routine of being ‘snowbirds,’ spending the next 17 years wintering in Parker Dam, California, and summering in their homes in Sonora, California, and Centralia, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Thomas J Tighe.
Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years, Connie; 2 sons, Patrick (Sue) and Michael (Janis); 2 daughters, Teresa and Lori (Rob); 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was dearly loved by his family and many friends, and will truly be missed by all.
Public visitation will be held from 4 - 8 PM on Wednesday, October 30, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel in Centralia. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM on Thursday, October 31, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Centralia, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Paul will be interred at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis, Washington.
