He was born January 29, 1947, to Robert and Lucille Schofield in Yakima, WA. Mike lived in Prosser, WA, on his family farms until the age of five. Mike loved to reminisce about his time living on the east side where his grandparents ran a mint farm and his dad had milk cows.

He was a graduate of Centralia High School and was a part of the Suburban Knights car club. He had a love for old Chevrolet cars and pickups and this continued throughout his life. After High School, he was drafted during the Vietnam War and served from 1967-1969. During a quick trip home from leave he and the love of his life, Sue were married December 2, 1967.
After being discharged from war, he came home and settled in the Little Hanaford Valley where he and Sue resided for over 50 years in the home they built together. This is where Mike and his wife Sue raised their two children Jennifer and Jeff. Mike worked at Kraft and Keen and Howards, before retiring from TransAlta where he was a parts man. In 1994, Mike and Sue bought the Chehalis Mints Co., he enjoyed working in the candy shop with his children, which allowed him to spend a lot of time with his grandchildren who were always present. He enjoyed taking trips with his family, especially to Leavenworth.
