Fred was born in Chehalis, Washington, on October 20, 1927, and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, worked in the woods and drove trucks for Weyerhauser, was a reserve officer with the Centralia Police Department, a police officer in Morton, Washington, and owned his own truck driving business, Fred Dixon Trucking.
Fred married Evonne Howard on August 21, 1948. They raised 3 children; Judy, Linda and Steve, in Centralia, Washington. They were married 63 years before her passing on February 18, 2011.
He married his second wife, Edith Brossard, on March 17, 2012. She passed away in May of 2015.
Fred loved life and all of his family. His smile, his jokes and willingness to help wherever he was needed will be missed by all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Judy (Bill) Kytta, and Linda Jetton; son, Steve Dixon; step-children, Ron Brossard, Steve Brossard, David Brossard and Marilyn Higgins; grandchildren, Aubree (Don) Summerhayes, Will (Allison) Kytta, Heather Quinones-Wiese, Amiee (Everick) Schmitke, Ryan (Staci) Wiese, Shannon (Kenneth) Washington, and Samantha Dixon; great-grandchildren, Halie Stridinger-Kytta, Willy Kytta, Grace Schmitke, Emma Wiese, Harper Summerhayes, and Luna Summerhayes; sister, Jeri McClure; brother, Louis Haynes; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws, Warren & Enid Johnson; and a great friend, "Cal.”
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Evonne; second wife, Edith; mother, Rhoda Connor Haynes; father, Fred A. Dixon; sisters, Helen Clark, Dorothy Sullivan and Eydie Jay; brother-in-law, Art Smalley; sister-in-law, Irlene Haynes; and other friends and family.
There will be a celebration of life held on Thursday, October 26th at 2:30 PM, at Centralia Community Church, 3320 Borst Avenue, in Centralia, Washington.
