Ernie was born June 24, 1919 in Chehalis, WA. With the exception of his college years and service in WWII he resided his entire life in Lewis County. Ernie graduated from Chehalis High School, then earned a Bachelor's Degree from WSU in 1942. Immediately after his graduation, Ernie joined the Navy to serve in WWII. He was commissioned as an officer and served as skipper of a submarine chaser in the combat zones of the South Pacific.
While in the Navy, Ernie met Bernice Grannis who was serving in the WAVES. After discharge from the Navy, Ernie and Bernice were married on April 4, 1946, a union that lasted for 53 years. Together, they began a life of farming and raised three children.
In 1953, Ernie was invited to join Southwest Washington Production Credit Association as a field representative for agriculture loans. He was with PCA, rising to the position of president, and retired in 1981. He enjoyed working on his farm and travels with Bernice. In 1995, Ernie moved to Woodland Estates and made many friends there.
Ernie leaves behind his three children, Gail Hamilton Johnson (Greg) of Olympia, Scott Hamilton (Lori) of Napavine, and Jill Hamilton of Centralia, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Ernie is preceded in passing by his wife, Bernice, his parents, Harry and Gustava Hamilton, his brothers Lucian and Jim Hamilton and his sister, Lola King.
Ernie was greatly loved and respected by family and friends. At his request, there will be no memorial service.
