Edith Marion Richter

Edith was born October 28, 1923, in PeEll, WA, to Joseph and Angela (Hanulka) Smaciarz. Edith graduated from PeEll High School in 1942. She married Donald Richter on October 12, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, PeEll. They made their home in Chehalis.

Edith worked a number of years at the St Helens Hotel. She retired from Fuller Market Basket after 25 years as a Clerk/Supervisor in the Bakery Department. After retirement, Edith and her husband enjoyed RV’ing and family get-togethers at their place on the Sound, where Edith was known to start an occasional water fight. In her later years, she enjoyed casino and shopping trips with her sisters, was an avid and vocal Mariners and Seahawks fan, and an excellent knitter, giving away her many creations to family and friends.

Edith was a lifelong Catholic. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chehalis for over 60 years.

Edith is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Richter; her sisters, Vy Wylam and Logie Howell, Centralia, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Stella Gehlert, Josephine Pemerl and Julia Brewer; and brothers, Steve, Andy and Joe.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Chehalis, with recitation of the Rosary prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Internment will follow at Claquato Cemetery. A reception will follow the internment at the Holiday Express Inn, Main and NW Liberty Place, Chehalis. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Joseph School, 123 SW 6th St., Chehalis, WA 98532.

The family would like to thank Dr. Floyd Smith and staff, the physicians and staff at Providence Centralia Hospital and Liberty Country Place for their care and kindness.

Edith was a generous and loving aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews and their families, keeping all members of her extended family connected through get-togethers and the telephone. Aunt Edie’s and Uncle Don’s door was always open to family, neighbors and friends. We will all greatly miss her.
