Don Brown was born in Chehalis, Washington on October 27, 1931 to Roy and Ida Brown. Chehalis would be “home” for the family off and on for many years. Don attended school at the West Side school in Chehalis, a one room school in Holly Washington, R.E. Bennett Jr. High and the old Chehalis High School until it was condemned after a strong earthquake in his senior year of high school.
A life long change came when Don gave his life to Jesus at the Napavine Assembly of God church some time in his teens. He made the Assembly of God sign in his high school shop class that hangs outside the church to this day.
He married Glenda Friend in 1956. Little did she know of the life of adventure she had married into but was a willing and valuable participant in the many places they would minister together as husband and wife. Three children were born to Don and Glenda, Vicki, Stephen and Phillip.
Don and Glenda served churches in Logan Hill, WA, Bakersfield, CA, Maywood, CA, Inglewood, CA, Fairbanks, AK, Santa Monica, CA, Juneau, AK, Chehalis, WA, Mt. Vernon, WA, Packwood, WA. He also served on the staff of the Alaska Youth Village in Juneau, AK. He served the Northwest Ministry Network as the director and manager of Falls Creek Retreat Center and as a District Elder. Each place was left stronger and better.
Don’s proudest and most outstanding work was in his home town of Chehalis, WA, Bethel Church. He served there 14 years and oversaw the relocation from the downtown Main Street location to the present location on Kirkland Road where it continues to flourish today.
He lived life as an adventure that he shared with many people. Many trips were organized around ministry projects, helping churches and leading teams. His legacy lives on the many lives he influenced in his 62 years of ministry. He had amazing energy.
Don passed from life to eternal life on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, one week following his 61st wedding anniversary with his wife, Glenda Brown. He is survived by his sisters, Shirley Ellis and Barbara Burgess his wife, Glenda, his three children, Vicki, Stephen and Phillip, his eight grandchildren, David and Donald Kimball, Krista, Casey, Colton and Kalli Brown, Scott and Bradley Brown, his two great-grandchildren, Violet and Stephen Brown. He is preceded by his parents, Ida and Roy Brown and a granddaughter, Kara Brown.
Don was 86 years of age.
A memorial service is scheduled to begin 11am, Friday, December 22nd at Bethel Church, 132 Kirkland Rd., Chehalis. Services are under the care of Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia.
