In loving memory of Rudolph “Rudy” Emil Flack, Jr, age 82, a resident of Baton Rouge, who peacefully passed away at his home with his daughter nearby on September 23, 2022. Rudy is survived by his four children, Sandy Flack Frederick, Richard (Alice) Flarend, Kyle (Cookie) Flack, Mark (Cindy) Flack; 11 grandchildren, Heather Frederick, Matthew Frederick, Geneva Flarend, Chadric Flarend, Brendan Flack, Ryann Flack, Gabriel Rivera, Erica Rivera, Mandy Rivera, Ashley Flack and Avery Flack; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Frederick, Lily Frederick, Abigale Frederick; his first wife, Lois Ann Hampton Flack; and his brother, Rick (Keigh) Flack. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Linda Lou Alford Flack, his third wife, Carolyn Diane Adams Flack, and his parents, Rudy and Dorothy Flack.
Rudy was born on July 11, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii and was nicknamed “Rudd” by his parents. Rudd loved the outdoors and scouting from childhood through adulthood as he served in the Cub Scouts (Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Lion, Webelos), Boy Scouts (Eagle), Explore Scouts (Silver award plus others) and Adult scouting (Silver Beaver award plus others). Neil Patrick Harris (actor, singer, writer, producer and television host) was in Rudy’s Ruidoso, New Mexico Scout Troup.
Rudy 53 (1993)
In his early teenage years, Rudy was a Junior Deputy and expert marksman with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department. He loved science, electronics and music growing up. Rudy played the trumpet for six years in the Baton Rouge Junior and Senior High School bands and was 1st chair all-state his senior year. Rudy played the trumpet with two popular 1950s Louisiana bands; Jimmy Clanton, and Lenny Capello and the Four Dots.
Rudy was a ROTC member of the Pershing Rifles and member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at LSU. He obtained BS and MA degrees attending LSU, Clemson, UAB and UTEP resulting in Forestry and Education degrees. Rudy spent four plus years in the USAF specializing in electronics and radar.
Rudy’s professional career encompassed several disciplines (Working Circle Forester with Union Camp, Church’s Fried Chicken National Training Manager, Residential Builder, Real Estate Broker, Ruidoso Motel Owner/Operator, Credit Bureau Owner, Mortgage Broker, and Public and Private School Teacher).
Rudy was an avid reader his entire life and enjoyed both fiction and non-fiction, but especially science fiction. He co-authored and published unique books about Astrology. Rudy was a self-taught Genealogist and published a genealogy book in 2009 titled, Cox-Byler, O’dell-Darr, Collins-Kirchner and their associated Families of South Central Texas.
Rudy became a reader and translator of the old German script, which was used along with Latin in the old Civil and Church records. In 2010, Rudy produced a FLACH-FLACK Family-Tree going back to Bartli FLACH, 10th Great Grand Father, 1545. Rudy spent his later years as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and assisted with genealogy research and training.
At Rudy’s request, no service was held, and a private burial will take place at a later date at a family cemetery in Blanco, Texas.
