“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.” Revelation 21:4
Edgar James Hamilton, Jr, son of Zenobia Martin-Hamilton (Moro, Arkansas) and Edgar James Hamilton, Sr (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was the eldest of two children.
JR’s (Junior’s) youth left a lasting impression, as everyone talks of his energy and vibrance, despite being struck by a car at age 7. Those character traits endured throughout his life. He developed an uncanny practical wisdom through a special bond with his loving mother. He attended kindergarten, elementary and junior high school in Chicago, IL until the family moved to Helena, Arkansas in 1983 where he attended Central High School. The family returned to Calumet City, IL (Chicago’s south suburb) after two years. Junior is a member of the Thornwood High School (South Holland, IL) Class of 1987.
Big Jay enjoyed being around family, socializing and kicking it, to any degree. Jay shared special relationships with each family member. He seemed incapable of judging and casting aside people and ideas for superficial, selfish, and self-righteous motives - as our flesh can embolden us to do from time to time. That is a true reflection of Jehovah’s love. Jay was hard working and left lasting impressions throughout myriads of diverse jobs. Such a blessing to have a son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and/or friend that never pressured you to be anything but yourself while just loving yourself as God loves you.
After his mother passed away, Big Jay relocated from Calumet City, IL to Baton Rouge, LA in 2005 to live with his father and stepmother; they loved and cared for him dearly. After several years growing through life’s adjustments, seeking independence, he moved into a long-term, assisted living facility.
His energy and vibrance continued flourishing until a spinal cord disease immobilized him in 2018. At each step along the way, regardless of the challenge, Jay would remind you that he was “OK”. The contentment he communicated, along with the jokes and fun-loving ladies' man bravado, made you feel better about his and your own life’s circumstances. So many people were touched by his charisma, charm, energy, love, and practical wisdom, it can truly be said that “the good times that made us laugh outweigh the bad.”
He is survived by his nephew, Reginald J.D. Hamilton, brother, Reginald F. Hamilton (Teresa), aunts, uncles, cousins, niece-/nephew-cousins, and many more family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents Zenobia Martin-Hamilton and Edgar James Hamilton, Sr, maternal grandparents, Haywood and Floree Martin, and paternal grandparents, Thomas and Edna Hamilton.
“However, we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the power beyond what is normal may be God’s and not from us. We are hard-pressed in every way, but not cramped beyond movement; we are perplexed, but not absolutely with no way out; we are persecuted, but not abandoned; we are knocked down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:7-9
