Dear Mom, I said a prayer for you
to thank the Lord above
For blessing me with a lifetime
of your tenderhearted love.
I thanked God for the caring
you've shown me through the years,
For the closeness we've enjoyed

Like so many others who were drawn to Mary by her charm, warmth and kindness, we are deeply grieved by her death.  We first met Mary when we moved to Little Neck Parkway and became next door neighbors.  I recall her making us feel welcome by bringing us one of her (many to come) home baked goods on move-in day.  Despite our 20+ age differences we very quickly became friends. Being a relatively “newly wed” she also became my mentor and confidant.  There are so many times wonderful memories that I will always treasure.  

I recall when I was in the hospital delivering our first child.  Mary made sure that “my” Steve had a meal each day.  Upon my return home, she had prepared meals for us so that we could concentrate on becoming parents and not worry about meal preparation.  That Christmas, Mary presented our Danielle with a special Bear ornament that she had made in ceramics.   Followed by a second one for our daughter Erika’s first Christmas two years later.  When Mark, our third child was born, Mary no longer was doing ceramics, yet she made a special Bear ornament for his first Christmas as well.  These ornaments have been passed on to each of our children and have a very special place on their respective Christmas trees.

As a result of our friendship, we also received another special gift, a “little sister”, your daughter Nancy, who Danielle chose to have as her Godmother.  Thank you!

Mary, we will miss you greatly, but our dear memories together and love will always prevail.  You will always be our very special “Mar-Mar” (the name given to you by Danielle when she was unable to say Mary).
