Robert Brown Sherman, 90, of Killingworth, passed away peacefully on October 6 at Connecticut Hospice. He loved his family, including his wife of 67 years, Enid (Rigby) Sherman, his children, Philip and wife, Joyce of Elkins, New Hampshire, Joan Goncarovs and husband Guntis, of Deerfield, New Hampshire, Raymond and his wife Maricruz, of Acworth, Georgia, and Ellen Wood and husband Lawrence, of Putnam, Connecticut. Also 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandsons. Bob was born on November 12, 1923 in West Haven, where he resided until 1963. He graduated from West Haven High School, and worked for Western Electric in West Haven until he enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he served his country in the Pacific during World War II. After returning, he married in 1947, went to work for Hill and Harrigan Engineering in New Haven, and graduated from New Haven College with an engineering degree. In 1963, he moved his family to Killingworth, and shortly thereafter went to work for Yale University. He was dedicated to the Killingworth Congregational Church, serving as both a Deacon and a Trustee. He mentored many young men as a Scoutmaster over many years. In 1986, he retired in order to spend more time with his family. He was involved in the planning and building of the Killingworth Library, and was named the Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 1996. He also served the Extension Service as a Master Gardener. A memorial service will be held at the Killingworth Congregational Church on October 18 at 11:00 AM. Burial in the Church Memorial Garden will be private. Memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Killingworth Congregational Church or the Killingworth Library.
