Judith W. Joy, age 84, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024 in Cromwell, Connecticut. Judy was born March 31, 1940, in Grosse Point, Michigan and lived in Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Deep River, Connecticut for most of her adult life. Judy worked at R.R Donnelley in Old Saybrook and The Lee Company in Westbrook and retired to Maine. She moved to Milbridge, Maine and enjoyed the coast of Maine for over 15 years before coming back home to Connecticut
Judy loved to tell stories of her life and was a member of the Congregational Church in Milbridge where she was an active volunteer. She donated a lot of her time in supporting the community before coming back to Connecticut.
Judy leaves her children, Jeff Joy, of Ivoryton, Deborah Joy, of New Haven and Karen Joy Torrenti, of Cromwell. Her four loving grandchildren, Timothy Joy, Christopher Joy, Samantha Torrenti and Andrew Torrenti. She also leaves behind Bill Espowood, her brother of North Haven and many nieces and nephews. Her brother George Wood, Jr. and both of her parents, George Wood and Edythe Walkinshaw passed in earlier years. Butch Francis Joy of Deep River, her ex-husband passed away many years ago as well. Judy was also predeceased by her lifetime companion, Dennis Bagley of Milbridge, Maine.
A celebration of Judy’s life will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. Her burial will be privately held by her family at a later date. Donations can be made in Judy’s name to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901 for a cure.
