Janet Mae Brown (née King), aged 90, peacefully passed away on November 22nd, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Known for her sweet nature, gentle spirit, and green thumb, she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Born on May 25th, 1934 in Old Saybrook, CT, Janet was the cherished daughter of Jane and Charles King. After graduating university, she went on to work as a teacher for a number of years before starting her family. Janet was the devoted wife of Robert Brown for 61 years, with whom she shared two sons, Steven and David (Kathleen). She was also known as an adoring grandmother to Lauren and Colleen, who will forever remember her as a source of wisdom and unconditional love. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Robert, brother Charles, sister-in-law Peggy, nephew John and niece Elizabeth Anne, as well as her parents Jane and Charles.
Janet was an active member of St. John’s Parish, and her mercy and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her. Outside of her family and faith, Janet found great joy in gardening. Her home was surrounded by vibrant blooms, a testament to her love of nature and her ability to create beauty wherever she went. She took pride in sharing her flowers, especially her orchids, with neighbors, friends, and family.
Her family invites all who loved her to celebrate her life at St. John’s Church, 161 Main Street in Old Saybrook, Connecticut on Saturday, November 30th, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, North Main Street in Essex. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food pantry.
Janet will forever be remembered for her warmth, her faith, and the gardens she nurtured, both on Earth and in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
