She was born in 1930, in a small village in Sicily where she met and married her husband Giuseppe Manuli. They had 7 children, 6 girls and 1 boy. Her children fondly remember her skillfully climbing to the tops of olive and cherry trees and working hard alongside her husband to provide for their family and care for their community.
When Giuseppa was nearly in her 50’s, she and her husband made the hard decision to leave their families, home and life behind to come to the United States to give their children the best life they could. After the death of her husband over ten years after their arrival, she focused on being the family matriarch, and despite her early hearing loss that hindered her ability to learn English; she became a fixture in the tri-town community. Her daily walks from her home in Deep River to her family’s business, Reliable Cleaners and Tailoring in Chester, made her beloved by all who got a smile and wave from her.
Giuseppa was an avid gardener, defender of the tomatoes and adored flowers. She enjoyed nothing more than the sight of a good hanging plant and plate of excellent pasta. She was a pillar of faith in her family and her church, and will be missed by her Waterford Seventh Day Adventist Church friends. Her fierce devotion to her family can be seen in the exceptional lives of her children and their spouses, Carmela and Anthony Saglimbeni Sr, Livia Manuli, Maria and Carmelo Spataro, Sebastiana and Carlo Oliveri, Claudia and Hank Bellows, Sebastiano and Graziella Manuli and Daniela Manuli. She was constantly caring for one of her 9 grandchildren and welcomed 7 bonus grandchildren in the form of their spouses. More recently to her joy, she also cherished her 8 great-grandchildren who all adored their Nanna.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 29th, at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral home in Centerbrook. A public funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30th, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Giuseppa’s name to the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House Charity.
