Virginia (Gigi) was born on December 10, 1941 in Lacrosse, WI to Helen and Harold (Marree and Bomp). Beloved sister of Jane Thering and Jim Sorenson. She is survived by her loving son, Christopher, her two grandchildren, Zachary Thomas and Grace Elizabeth, her sister, Jane, and many nieces and nephews.
Gigi received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Her true passion was charity work and helping others. In the early 1980’s, Gigi was the Executive Director of Care and Share, where she managed a mostly volunteer group that coordinated food distribution and clothing to the needy of Colorado Springs. One of Gigi’s fondest memories is driving a van to the local Farmers Markets to collect produce that she could add to her food baskets given to the less fortunate.
Gigi was a lover of animals, from her horse “Patches” growing up on Eagle Rock Farm in Soldiers Grove Wisconsin, to her many dogs in Bakersfield CA, Cloudcroft NM, and El Paso TX. She also enjoyed traveling and exploring the outdoors, from weekend getaways with friends to Santa Fe or Santa Barbara, to family trips in the mountains of Colorado.
When Gigi’s grandchildren, Zachary and Grace, were born, it began a whole new chapter for her. Gigi would make frequent visits to Parker, CO that always included reading books to her grandkids and making them pancakes for breakfast. In Gigi’s later years, she moved to Denver where Zach and Grace were able to visit her more frequently.
Gigi is loved more than words can describe by her family and close friends. May your spirit run free Gigi; until we meet again.
