Treva was born on September 10, 1927 in Mayfield, OK, a farming community in western Oklahoma, about 2 hours east of Amarillo, TX. Her parents were Otto Silas Ely (1904 -1989) and Nannie Pearl Carnahan (1907-2000). Treva attended McMurry College in Abilene, TX, earning a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She later went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX.
While teaching in east Texas, she met Marvin Lewis Boyd, also a teacher, and they were married on the 21st of April, 1962 in Dalhart, TX. While Treva had no children of her own, she gained two stepsons - Don & Stephen.
Treva loved teaching. For most of her career in east Texas and later in Fort Worth, she taught special needs children at the elementary school level. She also loved to travel. She and Marvin traveled extensively throughout the US, with Colorado as their favorite destination. Treva also traveled extensively after Marvin’s passing in 2001, taking dozens of cruises and excursions to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and Asia.
Treva moved to the Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial, CO. in 2013. While she was sad to leave many friends in Texas, she was glad to be closer to Stephen and his family in Colorado, anxious to make new friends at Holly Creek. She really enjoyed the people and activities at Holly Creek, which she described as a “very happy place.”
Treva was a friendly, kind, and generous woman, with a flair for life, and a special Texas “spunk.” She will be missed. Treva is survived by her brother Harold Don Ely of Altoona, FL, her sister Geraldine Ely Berryhill of Dalhart, TX, and her stepson Stephen Boyd of Denver, CO.
