Thane Mark Tasto, age 76, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, and is now at peace. Born on March 17, 1949, he was the son of Gerome Thane Tasto and Jessie Christine Tasto (Henry). He grew up in Tustin, California before moving with family to San Diego. He graduated from Clairemont High School and studied photography at San Diego City College before moving to Denver, Colorado where he would go on to build a life filled with love, joy, and family of his own.
Thane was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Loree Tasto; his sister, Carla Jacobs of San Diego; his eldest son Erik Tasto, daughter-in-law Angel Tasto, and their two sons Thomas and Cooper; his son Travis Tasto; and his daughter Carissa Tasto, son-in-law Andrew Birnberg, and their son Pascal.
Thane had a remarkable ability to connect with others. He was known for his genuine curiosity and interest in people, their lives, stories and passions making him a cherished friend, neighbor and successful in his career. Over 30 years he left his mark on the Denver area selling fine woods and moldings to custom furniture makers, home builders, and public school shop classes.
A passionate outdoorsman, Thane was actively involved in organizations dedicated to improving Colorado fisheries and connecting people with nature through fishing. He found joy in skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, and camping throughout the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana.
Outside of his professional and conservation efforts, Thane lived life with enthusiasm. Whether it was the sound of waves crashing, the energy of live music, or the roar of top fuel cars at Bandimere Speedway, Thane embraced the loud and exhilarating aspects of life. He enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including motorcycle racing, photography, and woodworking. In later years, he found a passion for pickleball and cherished both far-ranging walks and conversation over coffee with friends.
Thane will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His zest for life and genuine connection with others will be fondly remembered.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made in Thane's memory to the High Plains Drifters, a charter club of Fly Fishers International (FFI). This charity organization brings together a community of anglers of all skill levels for conservation and enjoyment of Colorado fisheries. Thane’s spirit is now free to swim in the Colorado rivers alongside the fish he loved so dearly.
