

Stoyan I Ganchev, PhD, age 63, of Littleton passed away suddenly on April 10, 2010 surrounded by family. He was born on December 24, 1946 in Sofia, Bulgaria, the youngest child to Ivan Ganchev, PhD and Evdokia Gancheva.
Growing up, Stoyan enjoyed studying many subjects, learning different languages, star-gazing with his homemade telescope, stamp and coin collecting. Stoyan graduated with honors in both high school and college. He earned a doctorate degree in Physics from the University of Sofia in 1981. Following this accomplishment he worked at the Bulgarian Academy of Science, doing research, patents, and publications. In the summer of 1990, he had the opportunity of a lifetime to live the American Dream by moving to the United States. This opportunity came to him through the IREX program. Once he completed his orientation in Rhode Island at Brown University, Stoyan moved to Colorado and Colorado State University. He started his career in the Physics department at CSU, working alongside colleagues doing many diverse projects. Shortly after, he had the opportunity to transfer to the Electrical Engineering Department, where he was able to not only conduct research, but also to become a Professor and accomplish additional patents.
In 1997, Stoyan embarked on a new journey by starting work at Hewlett Packard. Shortly after, when the company split in 2000, he became part of Agilent Technologies as an Inside Application Engineer. He took pleasure in working at Agilent alongside his many colleagues and lifelong friends. Stoyan truly enjoyed traveling around the world as part of his job, attending many conferences, completing various presentations, and troubleshooting many issues with clients.
In his later years Stoyan enjoyed visiting many stamp shows around town, taking long walks with his wife and dogs, and spending countless hours with his family and friends. Stoyan has always been very proud of his family, especially his children and their achievements, both academically and personally.
Stoyan is survived by his wife of 31 years Nelly, daughter Yana, son Sava, along with many other family members and lifelong friends. Stoyan is preceded in death by his father Ivan Ganchev, PhD and his brother Nicola Ganchev, PhD.
He is loved dearly by his family and friends, and will be missed by all.
