The Omaha Central High School Class of 1984 offers our belated condolences.  We are having our 35th high school reunion this week in 2019. We just learned of Steve's passing.  We are just shocked and saddened.  His name will now be on our memorial table.  Gone but not forgotten ... taken too soon. :(

Today I am missing a birthday call that I won’t receive.

I have shared all my birthdays with my brother and this is the first one without him.  As we got older and left home – there hasn’t been a year that I didn’t receive a card or a call.  It was just that important to the two of us to stay connected through the distance.  After I talked to Steve last year – he called a week later to firm up plans for our dinner on Oct 3rd when I would next be in Denver … a dinner that was never to be.  Little did I know, that would be the last time I would ever talk to him.

I love my brother Steve and am devastated by his loss - I miss him every day.  This last year has been a difficult one filled with much pain and regret … just wishing we had 1 more day together.  For those of you who knew Steve – and there were many who knew him well,  you were aware of his unique personality & perspective as well as his genuine kindness and giving spirit towards others.  He loved life and squeezed every minute out of every single day. 

I loved Steve right where he was at … short comings and all.  There will NEVER be another quite like him.  I will miss his laugh & smile, his sorry jokes, his off key singing, his adventurous spirit, his love for the outdoors and his passion for what he believed in.  His loss has left a hole in my heart.  I take comfort in knowing he is in heaven where he will experience forgiveness and peace.

I want to thank the many people who have reached out through this site to express your condolences and share your memories – it has meant the world to me.

I will be in town on Sept 30th to commemorate his passing and would like to invite anyone that would like to join in a night of sharing memories of Steve.

Seeing advertisements for the Luke Bryan concert this summer, makes me think back to last summer when Steve took me up to Cheyenne Frontier Days to see him in concert! It wasnt enough for him to just drive up and come back, he wanted to make it extra special, so we made it another RV trip! And to top it off, he served steak and lobster!!-- but then hes also the one who would cook gourmet meals from the back of his truck when wed go hunting! SO many memories that make me both smile and cry!  

When we went to the Journey concert a few years ago, he was blown away by Neal Schons guitar solo  He had such a great ear and a passion for music, and I know hes just loving the music in Heaven! Even the great Annie Lennox and Steve Perry cant carry a tune compared to the angels! :-) And I can see Steve just rocking it out on his air guitar that he was so great at, and singing at the top of his lungstotally in key now! :-)

Knowing how absolutely FREE and at PEACE he is now, helps me get through the days without him. I dont think my pain will ever fully go away this side of Heaven though.

I've been putting off coming back to this site, but I do want to honor Steve and our relationship. The past 4+ years we stuck together through thick and thin, becoming best friends and trusting each other with everything. We laughed, cried, talked, challenged each other, pushed each other's buttons, butted heads and fought like cats and dogs, and through it all we grew closer and developed a genuine respect for each other.

He opened my world to so many things: hunting, fishing, ice fishing, golf, RV travel, the Augusta National Golf Course!! (what a place!), cross-country skiing, different music, different home-cooked meals, how to drive a front loader, how to shoot various guns, and so much more... and I opened his world to horses, ministry, country music and God!  Along with a new perspective in being able to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the sunset even though the brown cloud still existed he was learning to not dismiss the good just because the bad also existed!

He was intense, abrasive, opinionated, and if you didnt know how awesome he was, all you had to do was ask him! LOL :-) But more importantly, beneath all that, he was the most generous, thoughtful, tender man I'd ever known.  He was the busiest person I knew, and yet he always made time to call and check in, and to be there to help, listen or just to play and have fun and there was always time for one last joke, or to recite a line from a movie that became more hilarious to him the more he repeated it! :-) And in a crisis, hes the one you wanted around, because he was so very capable and competent! As long as it didnt involve a computer, there was nothing he couldnt do!

Just a few days before his accident, we had gone to take one final look at the property we decided on. He was helping me buy it so we could run the ministry there... that's what kind of person he was. He has left a massive hole in my heart and my life. He had a larger than life personality, and yet he also paid attention to every detail and remembered all of them! I miss everything about him... including his Clint Eastwood impression! And I think we were the last two people to still love our old flip phones!

He never met a stranger we were out last St. Patricks Day and he was eyeing a cheese plate that a group across the room had, so I suggested he go ask for some not two minutes later he was sitting at the table with the group, engaged in conversation and eating their cheese! He was amazing, in so many ways! I was in Grand Lake with him countless times without ever seeing a moose, and the one time I told him Id like to see one, sure enough, he found a moose for me! He never ceased to amaze me. With Steve, there was never a dull moment his energy was contagious!

Ok, so he always gave me a hard time about not being concise, so it seems fitting that my tribute to him wouldnt be concise either :-) Ill wrap it up by saying that the value of a persons life can be measured by how well they were loved, and Steve was well loved!! His impact and influence will well and truly live on in all of us who were close to him! I will miss him for the rest of my life, but I look forward to seeing him again in eternity, where I know he is absolutely LOVING the rich, lush, green grass (my bare feet will miss his lawn, and my horses will miss his grass clippings!), and where Im sure he is enjoying gardening without having to do weeding, and where he is no doubt helping prepare the evening feastsand he no longer has to read the ingredients or worry about nitrates and other toxins! These thoughts make me smile in the midst of my many tears, especially as my birthday approaches-- he always went out of his way to make it special. But I know he'll always be with me, just in a different way from now on, and I treasure that too! 

I loved this man more than I can put into words. He was my best friend, my everything. My fiance. We were engaged on Sept 6 th 2017. My fellow golfer, hunter and my forever traveling partner. The incredible and priceless memories of my years with this incredible man, no one will ever measure up to!!  I cannot possibly put it into words He was my person. My ever.  Every single day since October,  I talk to Steve as he is beside me always. I did not enough time with him. A lifetime is what we deserved together. 

So sorry the hear this news.  Steve worked for us for the past 20 years, keeping our yard looking great, our sprinkler system operational, building a fence, trimming our trees, and any other odd jobs that we needed.  He was also a great conversationalist who always had a "story" to tell and time to throw the ball with our dogs.  He will be missed.  Katie & Pat Forshey

I was shocked to hear this news.. Steve worked for us for 15 years.  Great personality.  Always had our best interests in mind.  He did a super job.  I will miss him big time

We are heart broken about Steve's death.  He worked for us for 25  years, keeping our landscaping and yard beautiful.  We will miss him very much.  May God bless you during your time of trauma and grief. Joe and Carole Malezija

WAS in complete shock when I heard of this man passing.

We were unable to go to Steve's services as we did not know until later.

Approximately 17  to 20 years ago he visited my family in New Zealand and was on the sheep farm with my Dad(whom passed this year also) and my brother and younger sisters, as Steve always did he...... worked..... a couple of days on the farm just for the experience, in turn my Mum feed him and listened to his stories of life, my brother a little younger than Steve passes on his condolence to his family also.

Steve was also my sons mentor, when he was in trouble as a teenager and to this day, he admired Steve, and as they got older(my son is now 32 yrs) they would still hang out and hunt birds, fish or be at a bar..... they  would still talk...Ryan (my son) was in disbelief when I told him of Steve's passing, they had planned on moose hunting later this year or early next year.
I was also Steve's real estate broker when he purchased his home on Katie Drive, he wanted that place from the moment he walked in, come hell or high water, he was determined.
When Steve's  Dad passed, Ryan went  with him, to I believe it was Iowa in a night drive.

Steve has left me with the  memory of ...IT (whatever it is) can be worked out, its not that difficult!
Rest in Peace Steve.......Will miss your challenges and your smile!
