Shirley A Wilson, 93, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 7, 2023. Born November 30, 1929 in Greeley, Colorado, she was preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Betty (Grogan) Warren, husband of 28 years David O Wilson and grandchildren Annika and Kristopher Shechter.
Shirley is survived by her four children Charlotte Gray (John) of Katy, TX, Barb Wilson, of La Junta, CO, Becky Flanigan (Greg), of Conifer, CO, David Wilson (Michelle)of Kissimmee, FL. Grandchildren Sharon Sidwell (Shawn), Lynnette Blair (Stephen), Aasta Shechter, Karoline Shechter (Mike), Jeremy Flanigan, Aimee Ramsey (Bryce), Michael Wilson (Tia), Savannah Wilson (Chris)and three great grandchildren Tyler Ochoa (Sara), Presley Blair and Owen Ramsey. Sister-in-law Jane Adams and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley lived in Greeley, Grand Valley, Las Animas, Englewood and La Junta Colorado. She graduated from La Junta High School in 1947 and attended Colorado State College of Education. In 1948 she was granted a Colorado Emergency Certificate for Teaching. She taught at Grand Valley near Rocky Ford, Colorado.
On August 28, 1948 she married Dave Wilson at the United Methodist Church in La Junta, CO and they moved to Englewood where she raised their family. Shirley was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and attended Snowmass Chapel when in Aspen and later online. Her faith was a guiding foundation that carried her through life. She was very active in church activities including UMW and teaching Sunday School.
Shirley was employed by the Englewood Public Schools and retired in November of 1999.
She loved and followed all Colorado sports teams. In 1960 she began her love affair with the Denver Broncos and became their most devoted fan. Shirley was also a lifetime member of Eastern Star and active volunteer for Job's Daughters and DeMolay. She also volunteered for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, EHS Band Boosters and any and all sports or activities the kids and grandkids participated in.
Her family appreciates the assistance provided by Mount Evans Hospice. In lieu of flowers Shirley requested that donations be made to the Snowmass Chapel, earmarked for mental health programs, P.O.
