Shirley Ruth (Richard) Lord passed away on August 10th, 2020 in Lone Tree, Colorado, at the age of 85. Shirley was born May 12, 1935 in Englewood, Colorado to Phyllis Richard and Charles “Dee” Richard. She graduated from South High School in Denver and married Muriel L Lord on October 28, 1955.
Shirley was the Canon City Welcome Wagon representative for several years, as well as a volunteer for the Canon City tourist information desk and was an office assistant for her husband, Merle Lord in his State Farm agency. Years prior, Shirley was a hospital volunteer, working as a “Pink Lady.”
She was also an active member at the First Presbyterian Church in Canon City, serving in several positions of Deacon, Elder, and bible school teacher. Shirley lived in many cities across the US, including: Denver, Lakewood, Canyon City, Parker, and Lone Tree, Colorado as well as Tustin and Vista, California.
Shirley was known to be an accomplished cook and enjoyed being a supportive wife and mother to her family and was always willing to volunteer for any special function in need of her helping hand.
Shirley will always be remembered for her caring, thoughtful, and kind approach to life and to helping others. She lived her life in a truly Christian manner, judging no one and treating others as she would like to be treated.
Shirley is survived by her husband Merle Lord, children Gary Lord (Rhonda), Norman Lord (Wanda), Brian Lord (Rhonda), and Kathy Slama (Tim). Grandchildren Derek “Bel”, Justin, Jason, Audrey, Ryan, Preston, Brinslie, Joshua, and Mackenzie Lord.
She is proceeded in death by her siblings Dewey Richard, Dorothy Richard Daviet, Buster Richard, Phyllis Richard Folsom, and Beverly Richard Midget.
Services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary and Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 concerns, the family will be holding a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org
