Rodney William Brewer was born in Xenia, Ohio, on July 5, 1947, to parents William and Barbara Brewer. He was the oldest of five children and graduated from San Juan High School in Citrus Heights, California.
He was a certified ski instructor at Tahoe Ski Bowl in Lake Tahoe, California, and also worked on their ski patrol. He taught his sons and grandchildren how to ski, and some neighbor kids as well.
Rod enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1966 and served in Vietnam receiving two purple hearts for his injuries. Although he was discharged in May 1968, he always remained a Marine! His ringtone on his phone was the Marines’ Hymn.
Rod worked many years in Orange County, California, as an owner of Dial Electric and Lazer Electric, both electrical contracting firms that wired many Southern California housing tracts built during the 1960s through the early 2000s. He was a great boss, with many of his employees becoming his good friends.
He had a love of travel and visited all seven continents and all 50 states with his wife Cindy (they pulled into Little Rock, Arkansas, on Rod’s 70th birthday to complete their 50th state!).
Rod leaves behind a wife of 51 years, Cynthia Southern Brewer, two sons and their wives, Kirk and Tracie Brewer of Holualoa, Hawaii, and Mark and Anna Brewer of Colorado, and his two beloved grandchildren Leila and Brennan.
He is also survived by his mom, Barbara Brewer of Carmichael, California, and four siblings and their spouses - Bob and Shelly Brewer of Colfax, California, Mike and Karen Brewer of Corral de Tierra, California, Vic and Bev Hawkins of Elverta, California, and Tim and Donna Brewer of Citrus Heights, California. Rod was preceded in death by his father William Brewer.
He loved his family deeply and was always there for them, along with his extended family and friends. He was a person of strong values and people were drawn to him for his wisdom. Rod loved to debate politics or any other subject you were up to discussing.
Donations can be made in his name to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.
A memorial service for Rod will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at 10am in the Pavillion at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery.
