Robert Simpson Jr.

On December 10th, Robert Simpson Jr. passed away in Denver Colorado at the age of 101. Bob was born at the Slope Mine in Frederick, Colorado on November 11th, 1920. His parents, Robert and Ann came to the United States from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Bob was the 3rd of 5 children. Letitia the oldest, Tommy, Bob, Agnes, and Joe the youngest. He married Elizabeth Garten in January of 1948. Bob and Liz were happily married for over 62 years before she passed away in 2010. He loved her so and missed her till the day he passed away.

In 1939, Bob graduated from high school in Frederick, Colorado. He worked various jobs up until 1942 when he was selected to join the United States Army, for his service in World War ll. He was assigned to the newly formed 836th Engineering Aviation battalion. He served as a construction foreman. Building roads and air fields on tiny islands, to support the fighters and bombers in the South Pacific Theater. He received the American service medal, the Asiatic Pacific service medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze service star, World War ll Victory medal, and the Good Conduct medal. He was Honorably Discharged in December 1945. Bob was offered a job with General Services Administration at the Denver Federal Center. He soon was assigned to be the temporary foreman over the work crew of Roads and Grounds. This became a permanent job as he was awarded the foreman position over many applicants. Bob remained as foreman over Roads and Grounds till his retirement in 1978 at the age of 57.

In 1954, Bob and Liz bought a new house in West Denver. They raised 5 children there. Carol, Rob, Teri, Steve, and Jim. He lived in his house for over 67 years till he passed away. For more than 30 years, Bob and Liz spent Friday nights bowling in a league. All but one of their kids bowled with them at one time or another. They loved participating in activities with their children such as, Bowling, playing softball, camping, hiking, fishing, etc... Both enjoyed getting involved with their grand children as well. Dad was humble, kind and gentle, with a heart of gold! He was generous to a fault! Bob loved his wife to no end, and took care of her for 3 years till her passing. He loved his children completely! Bob loved his grand kids with a special love only a Grandpa can give! In return his grand kids loved him greatly and thought the world of him! Survived by his children: Carol, Teri(Preston), Steve, and Jim(Cindy). His brother Joe, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Liz, his eldest son Rob, sisters Letitia and Agnes, brother Tommy, and many in-laws . He was our strength and our mentor.

We were all blessed to have him in our lives, and we'll continue to treasure all the time we had together. He will be in our hearts forever! Bob will be deeply missed by his family who loved him dearly and who he loved dearly! He was a good man, a dedicated husband, a great dad, and a wonderful grandpa! He was special!

Viewing will be held on December 29th at 11:00 am through 1:00pm preceded by a graveside service at 1:15 pm. At Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery and Mortuary 6601 south Colorado Blvd.
