I worked with Dick at Morgan Federal Bank for 14 years before he retired in 2000.  When I arrived as the new kid on the block in 1986, he mentored me and, over the years, taught me a great deal about the business.  In time, I learned to unquestionably trust his sensible business judgments.  I appreciated his unwavering loyalty; he never failed to keep the bank's interests first and foremost.  I admired how he exercised fairness and honesty in all his dealings.  I enjoyed his subtle, dry sense of humor; he made me laugh – even sometimes when I least expected it (I'll never forget our monthly meetings to review delinquent loans!).  I respected his quiet humility and privacy.

Dick was my colleague, but more importantly, he was my friend, and I'm going to miss him.

Dick Sheldon was a good friend of mine that I met many years ago at Morgan Fed.  I remember the first time we met, we both had this look on our faces that said it all.  His look was 'oh, no another rookie Realtor' and my look said, 'this guy isn't ever going to approve any loan that I bring to him.'  We worked together from 1982 until 2001 and he did occasionally approve a few of my loans!

The other thing Dick did for me was he helped me get started with my real estate career--took me under his wing and taught me more than just the basics.  I admire someone who is willing to help the 'little guy' and he certainly devoted a great deal of his time and energy towards helping me get started.

The other thing I admired about Dick was all the work he did quietly behind the scenes on the Morgan Heights issues during the 1980's.  We spoke often about all the nights and weekends and the amount of time and frustrations that he was going through.  I hope the powers that be in Morgan Heights name the park after Dick.

I already miss him.
