Muriel E. McKeever, nee Fuller, of Highlands Ranch, CO died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the age of 99 years, 8 months, and 10 days. Muriel was a long-time member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and loved attending services with her daughter Alice and son Jim whenever she was able.
Muriel was born in Audubon, NJ and graduated from high school there in 1940. In 1943, she attended a dance at Fort Dix with some friends, where she met a young soldier from Colorado named John, who was soon to ship off to Europe. They corresponded throughout the war, and upon his return, John and Muriel were married on November 24, 1945. They moved to Colorado shortly thereafter, where they lived the rest of their lives, raising five children and their numerous dogs and cats together.
Muriel loved traveling, and she and John traveled the world for as long as they were able, taking road trips across the country with their children, and later, heading overseas to Europe, Australia, and many other far-off destinations. She was fiercely independent, and her lifestyle reflected that right up to the end of her life. Supported by her daughter Alice and her superb, long-time caregiver Dawn, she refused to give in to the physical limitations her aging body tried to force on her, continuing to use her walker to go into church each week.
The loves of her life included her husband John of 63 years; her five children, Alice Dunn, Dorothy Leong (Andy), Nick (Libby), Heidi Denman McDougall, and Jim (Jim Francis); nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and her cat Wiki. John preceded her in death in 2009. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew UMC on July 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. and she will be buried at Ft. Logan Cemetery with John.
